Happy Feet: Where to Find Stylish, Podiatrist-Approved Shoes in Australia

Happy Feet: Where to Find Stylish, Podiatrist-Approved Shoes in Australia

As a podiatrist, one of the most common questions I get asked is: "Where can I find casual shoes that are actually good for my feet?" The good news is that supportive, foot-friendly shoes don’t have to be bulky or boring. Here are some features that we should look out for when shoe shopping:

  • must flex at the toe/ball of the foot
  • Must NOT bend in the middle of the foot
  • needs a strong heel counter to hold the heel in place
  • Lace / Velcro / strap fixation over the top of the foot
  • A rounded toe box that reflects your own foot shape

In addition, here are some trusted Australian retailers and brands where you can find casual everyday shoes that keep foot health in mind.

1. Bared Footwear

Melbourne-based and podiatrist-designed, Bared Footwear offers a stylish range of casual and dress shoes for both men and women. Their removable footbeds and arch support make them an excellent everyday option.

2. Frankie4

Developed by a podiatrist and physiotherapist duo, Frankie4 is a go-to for women’s casual sneakers, sandals, and flats that don’t compromise on support or style. Their built-in insoles are an awesome alternative for someone who need a bit of extra support, but not to the extent of a custom orthotic.

3. The Athlete’s Foot

Beyond running shoes, The Athlete’s Foot stocks a wide selection of podiatrist-recommended brands such as Asics, Brooks, and New Balance. Their MyFit 3D system also helps match your foot type and GAIT cycle to the correct shoe for you!

4. Archies Footwear

Perfect for casual wear and summer, Archies offer supportive thongs (flip-flops) with built-in arch support—something rare in open footwear. Ideal for those summery beach days which we are all longing for.

5. OOFOS

Oofos is a relatively new footwear brand known for its ultra-comfortable recovery slides, slippers, and sandals. Designed with a patented OOfoam™ technology, Oofos shoes absorb 37% more shock than traditional foam, reducing stress on your feet, joints, and lower back.  I personally use these as my daily driver at home, and they are sooo cushioned! Makes me feel like I'm walking on clouds.

6. Homyped

An older but gold-standard brand in Australian comfort footwear, Homyped offers a wide range of supportive, orthotic-friendly shoes with various width fittings—great for ageing feet or those with foot conditions. With these tips and recommendations, you'll be able to make an informed decision on the next set of footwear that will leave yourself with happy feet
